Find relief from your lower back or radiating leg pain for back pain treatment from the Medical Spine & Injury Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Our skillfully delivered lumbar epidural steroid injection reduces swelling and inflammation.
Before The Procedure:
You will be asked to lie face down on your stomach while we place a cushion under your abdomen to provide comfort and to flex your back. This position allows the spine to open and gives us access to the epidural space between the vertebrae. We use a local anesthetic to numb the skin, making sure all the tissue down to the surface of the lamina portion of the lumbar vertebra bone is anesthetized.
Using a fluoroscope for guidance, our physician slides the needle through the anesthetized track. A contrast solution is injected, and we confirm the correct location of the needle tip. Once aligned, our physician injects the steroid and anesthetic mixture, bathing the painful nerve root with soothing medication. The needle is removed, and a small bandage is applied.
After the procedure you will be moved to a recovery suite for a short monitoring period. Upon release, you will be sent home with post-procedure instructions. A schedule of up to three injections in a twelve month period, when paired with conservative therapy, is proven to show significant improvement in pain and daily functioning.
NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE SOMEONE WITH YOU TO DRIVE YOU HOME POST PROCEDURE. NO EXCEPTIONS.
